Washington Association for Community Health

Our Mission: To strengthen and advocate for Washington’s Community Health Centers as they build health care access, innovation and value.

For over 40 years, the Washington Association for Community Health (WACH) has championed Washington's community health centers (CHCs) and their patients, strengthening primary care for all Washingtonians.

WACH brings CHCs together to help expand access to high-quality health care statewide for those who need it most. As our state’s federally recognized Primary Care Association (PCA), WACH provides coordinated, member-informed services that help CHCs strengthen capacity, improve performance, and advance system-level impact. We also help CHCs navigate state and federal health policy and advocate for changes needed to strengthen health centers and the communities they serve.

Our 28 member health centers delivered care to nearly 1.3 million Washingtonians in 2025 at over 450 clinic sites. They are vital providers in the state’s health care safety net, serving as the primary care provider to over 36% of the state’s Medicaid population in 2025.

Policy, Advocacy, & Public Relations

WACH works closely with health centers to assist them in navigating state and federal policy and to advance their priorities with elected officials and government agencies. Our primary state legislative policy priorities and advocacy day in Olympia are developed in partnership with the Community Health Network of Washington. Health centers, their patients, staff, and community partners can also engage in grassroots advocacy through Save Healthcare in WA. WACH also creates advocacy materials and engages with the media on behalf of the CHC system, as well as providing media and advocacy support directly to CHCs.

Shared Learning & Technical Assistance

WACH hosts Learning Networks, which are opportunities for peer-to-peer engagement among CHC staff who share a common role or area of work. We also host a variety of Learning Events that bring in subject matter experts to speak on topics that are responsive to member needs and interests. WACH also provides technical assistance and guidance to support operational, clinical, administrative, and innovative work at CHCs. Health centers can also keep up on the latest information about our state’s CHC system and specific topic areas through our newsletters and bulletins.

Workforce Development

WACH supports programs to augment the health care workforce in our CHCs and beyond. InReach Career Pathways – a division of WACH – hosts health care apprenticeship and on-the-job training programs. InReach leverages the insights of CHCs to create a health care workforce that serves all patients and helps employers find a workforce who are invested in the health of their community.

WACH also sponsors the SW WA Area Health Education Center (AHEC) workforce development program, which is part of the National AHEC Organization. The SW WA AHEC makes critical connections to strengthen health care in rural and underserved communities through recruiting, training, and retaining future health care workers.

Group Purchasing

WACH operates programs that assist our health centers and other key stakeholders with operational and financial support.

This includes our Group Purchasing Program, which allows health centers to access an array of purchasing resources including discounted pricing, new and familiar vendors, informational webinars, newsletters packed full of supply chain info and a monthly purchasing workgroup meeting.
