Community Health Workers: Safely Working in the Community- 2 Part Learning Series

Community Health Workers (CHWs) use a “big eyes, big ears” philosophy that supports working safely while in the community and at home visits in often high stress and emotional environments. Join the Association and guest Everyday Life Consulting as they walk through tips and tricks of community safety for CHWs and de-escalation techniques through communication. They will explore lessons learned from experience in the field and identify strategies at your Health Center.


Intended Audience:

CHWs, Promotores de Salud & their Supervisors at Community Health Centers


Learning Objectives:

As a result of the learning series, attendees will be able to:

  • Understand approaches to community safety

  • Explore internal policies that support CHW safety

  • Recognize, identify and apply home visiting safety strategies

  • Develop a home visiting action plan

  • Acknowledge and spot a person displaying aggressive behavior

  • Examine and practice verbal de-escalation techniques

  • Discuss experiences and strategies to keep yourself safe
